Aboriginal Youth Career Strategy

The First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy (FNIYES) is a program established by the Government of Canada to support Indigenous youth in accessing education and employment opportunities, enabling them to contribute to Canada’s economic growth. Since its launch in 1997, the program has provided assistance to approximately 150,000 Indigenous youth, with the government allocating around $24 million annually to fund its initiatives.

The primary objective of FNIYES is to enhance the employability skills of Indigenous youth by exposing them to various career paths and emphasizing the significance of education and employment. By equipping them with practical experience and professional skills, the program aims to empower First Nations and Inuit youth to secure sustainable jobs and build successful careers.

In addition to the First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy (FNIYES), there are other federal Aboriginal Youth Career Strategy employment programs available for Indigenous youth in Canada. While these programs differ in their approaches and strategies, they share a common goal of supporting Indigenous youth in gaining education, developing skills, and securing meaningful employment opportunities.
